Singkawang -1st Night

Getting Into SINGKAWANG.

At about 5pm, we reach Singkawang from the mountain ranges and passing thru a couple of Iban kampongs/villages. The road was winding , making the drive interesting . Although a shorter route, it takes a longer time. Horses, goats, chickens and plenty of " Free Ranging Dwaft Pigs " in 5 to 6 per family, they are really quite cute. Caution : Was advised not to roll over any of them or we may get into problems when we have to settle it with the owners.

At the fringe of Singkawang, we had another round of durians , sharing it with the children around us. My " F8, Hello Kitty Go Races " stickers came in handy. The children were overjoyed when each was presented with these stickers. Pictures will show that they queue up orderly to receive it from mer

Al Keong and Ah Lang came shortly and soon we were off to Singkawang town to see Michelle's 4 storey , 10 rooms cum office (old house. Unfortunately it's all locked up and use by the current owner as a store house. Then it was to Singkawang's " Char Kway Teow ". When I mentioned it to Connie later on, she just refuse to let me explain how much i enjoyed her hometown delicacy.

We were then checked into Mahkota Hotel at Rp330,000 / night with 2 breadfast. With free Wi-Fi internet, we were happy that the stay will be extremely pleasant, esp when we have local guides to bring us around. We rested for the evening and waited for " The Dinner " at Singkawang.

After a sumptous dinner, returning to the Mahkhota hotel, it's time for line dancing, cha cha cha, jive - the Singkawang folks were good at it. They knew each other very well and a resident band provided the music while guests went on stage to sing their best numbers. Pic shows Ah Keong and Ah Lang enjoying the evening with their friends.
