Day 9 -SEMPORNA - fr Denom Valley

SEMPORNA. The South Eastern tip of Sabah, this fishing village is the step off point to world reknown diving island SIPADAN. We took 3 hours to get out off Danum Valley and another 3 hours to reach this location. Oil palm lines our entire route of some 200km. Later we l learnt that Sabah is the largest Oil Palm state in Malaysia.
Our accomodation was at Dragon Inn hotel - a kelong type of set-up. This is one of the longest kelong type settings which has 4 blocks of buildings link to one another. Neo Chian and I then found some time to give our Pajero a good hand wash by 4 enthusiastic young men. At RM $7 it is real value for the work put in and Neo Chian says that his car has never been so clean.

Picture shows the rustic environment in town. unlike KK and Sandakan, you can clarly identify this fishing village as compared to the other more developed towns

Afterthat, it was time for washing chores and internet to sort out our blogs. Dinner was simple, but not to our expectations as their varieties of seafood was rather limited.

Accomodation at B3 Barisan block was rather unique with a 300hp power boat berth alongside us.
We then did a check to go to Sipadan to have a look. We were unable to secure even a day trip as the island is being controlled to limit the number of visitors everyday. Our plans calls for us therefore to settle for the night and push back to Brunei. We travel for 10 hours driving for 8 but could only reach TENOM , a little town 2 hrs from the border of Limbang.
Next Blog ? 30 Oct.
